THE TRIO WINS THE FIRST CEIO••• OF FRANCE AT LA BAULE
The individual podium of the second Official of France for international endurance at La Baule was Franco-Italian, entirely female, and more still since seven girls finished in the top ten places. Gold and bronze went to Italy (Diana and Angela Origgi), silver for France (Sophie Arnaud), in individual, with supremacy for the Belgian team (Jean-Louis Deschamps, Karin Boulanger, Léonard Liesens) ahead of Portugal, France and Italy.

Until now dedicated to showjumping, with its traditional Official Jumping of France (CSIO), La Baule inaugurated last year its first trial run in endurance, which was successfully reconvened with the 2nd edition of the CEIO *** of France. Eight nations were represented (Australia, Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, France), 36 competitors entered, four nations in the team competition, a course of 163 kilometres divided into six loops, such was the starting data. Only 18 riders survived to reach the finish line late in the evening at the end of a race rich in developments.

1st stage: La Baule beach/Ranrouët (30 kms)
Four riders turned in an average greater than 17 km/h: Fausto Fiorucci (ITA), Jack Begaud (FRA), Katie Smith (GBR) and Mohamed Ali Al Shafar (UAE). The first rider who had to be eliminated at a vet gate is Italian (Giancarlo Palino).

2nd stage: Ranrouët/Pénestin (40 kms)
A very fast stage where Al Shafar (UAE) exceeds the 20 km/h average. At the head of race: Fiorucci (ITA), Nicolas Blot, Laurie Belle, Sophie Arnaud, Robert Pastor (FRA). Six competitors are eliminated at the veterinary control: J.L. Molitor (BEL), José Maria Branco (POR), Jack Bégaud, Céline Just, Jean-Noël Lafaure, Philippe Tomas (FRA).

3rd stage: Pénestin/ Ranrouët (31.2 kms)
Selaattin Turgoglu (TUR) takes the head of the operation (19.5 km/h average) in front of Al Shafar (UAE), Forucci (ITA), and Smith (GBR) always constant. It is the ultimate stage for Meg Wade (AUS) and Catherine Roland (FRA), held over at the vet gate.

4th stage: Ranrouët/Guerande (31.2 kms)
Sophie Arnaud heads for home (average of 18.5km/h) in front of Turkoglu (TUR), Diana Origgi (ITA), Smith (GBR), Al Shafar (UAE). A bad loop for the French: the horses of Virginia Simon, Nicolas Blot and Geraldine Brault are taken out of the competition (the first for lameness, the following two for metabolic problems).

5th stage: Guerande/Guerande (19.5 kms)
The final pawns are moved into place. Diana Origgi (ITA) takes the lead (16.5 km/h average), followed six minutes later by Sophie Arnaud (FRA), and 22 minutes ahead of Emilie Lambert (2nd CEIO La Baule in 2003). Katie Smith (GBR) and Selaattin Turgoglu (TUR) are eliminated.

6th stage: Guerande/La Baule Plage (18.5 kms)
Diana Origgi (ITA) is first over the finishing line on the beach Bauloise clocking 20h:37':43, the second Sophie Arnaud (FRA) with 21h 02' 56, third Angela Origgi (ITA) joined her sister on the podium with
21h:04’:47.

Her view of the race: “The countryside was very beautiful, but the race was difficult to manage because of the undulating course. Speed had to be well managed, the more so as it is the first time that Jasmineh has done such a long race ".
Sporting credits: 9th individually and team gold medal at Pratoni del Vivaro (2003) with Jasmineh, participation in the World Championship at Punschestown (2003).
Her horse: Jasmineh (8-year-old Arab mare) from Polish origins.

Silver: Sophie Arnaud (France)

She started riding at the age of 11, did some showjumping classes before devoting herself exclusively to endurance since 1998. It is her first participation in the international of La Baule.
Her view of the race: "A beautiful course, some problems caused by muddy passages, not a major difficulty if it is not the trap of a very fast course where the horses could become tired quickly. I only came with the ambition to finish the race. I am more than satisfied ".
Sporting credits: 2nd in Ribiers** (2000), 6th in Bugue** (2001), 3rd in Montcuq*** (2003).
Her horse: Dalton du Capimont (bay Anglo Arab gelding, 13 years old, by Jano (Arab) and Missmis (thoroughbred)/Abaco (thoroughbred) who she has ridden since September 2003 (he was previously in the stables of Maya Killa Perringérard). "Dalton has the advantage of having a very quick capacity for recovery, which has always enabled me to enter the vet gates first.”
